"So,
I wear my disguise 'till I go home at night
There
were no lights in the room, except for the dimness caused by the stars
outside. No
sounds of any kind but the soft hum of the ship. Someone
lay in bed ... Still... Silent
tears running down their face. Inner
walls had fallen down, making the pain, which, not long ago, was so
carefully hidden and under control, come to surface with a striking
force. The
pain was getting sharper by the second, causing the person to curl up
tight, in a vain attempt to ease it. Eyes
were wide open, but they weren't looking at anything in the room. Instead,
they were going over a lifetime ... mostly the recent past ...
until the painful present ... Thoughts
were racing through the mind. *I
can go through this... just a couple of hours and I'll be safe again...
I can do it.* But
that wasn't enough to let go of the pain. ************* Weariness
finally took over, allowing some much needed sleep. ************* Night
was always hard ... but waking up wasn't any easier. However,
some strength could be drawn from remembering she would soon be going
back to her personal safe haven. Getting
up ... a quick glance at the chronometer. *Damm it ! I slept in!* Shift
was to start in less than thirty minutes. Even
managing to take a shower and to get dressed quickly, there would be
no time for breakfast. *Well,
the sooner I start working the better.* A
few seconds before the turbolift got to its destination, eyes were closed
and a long deep breath was taken. A
short time... but enough to raise the inner walls again. Those walls
which provided a false sense of security, control and well-being. The
doors opened. The eyes did the same soon after that. Ready
for one more day. A
step into the bridge ...
